The world premiere play is by the author of last season's hit 'Ben Butler'
The Scottish poet Robert Burns penned the wise words “O would some Power the gift give us, to see ourselves as others see us.”
Strand also wrote “Ben Butler,” the unexpectedly funny Civil War play that was a hit for North Coast last year. Like in “Ben Butler,” Strand creates colorful characters and improbable scenarios in “Annabella” that somehow work. And another ace in the hole is “Ben Butler” actor Bruce Turk, who hilariously returns for “Annabella” and steals most of the scenes in the two-hour play.
But Vanessa has never visited California, she doesn’t ski and she’s certainly not in love with both Alexander and Camelia, nor a surrogate mother to Piper. But Annabella’s magical unseen presence transforms everyone’s perceptions of her and themselves, including Brian’s. Before long, Vanessa and the whole supernaturally haunted resort are reshaped under Anabella’s spell.
