'Ring leader' sentenced to life for 2016 Vietnamese restaurant robbery and murder in Houston

They robbed the west Houston restaurant and fatally shot a man who tried to resist, according to the Houston Police Department.

Enzo Ubadimma was not one of the two men, but was described as the"ring leader" who sent the masked men into the restaurant, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a news release.Ubadimma drove to the restaurant multiple times to check it out before the robbery and recruited others to help, Ogg said in the release.

Early in the day of the robbery two women who were also part of the ring “pretended to use the restroom to check out the eatery.” Later, Ubadimma went back with the two men, who went inside masked. The two men took money from the cash register, then forced employees and patrons to lay on the floor, police said. As the two men began taking items from customers, Herman Ray Browning Jr., 58, stood up — possibly to confront them. He was shot in the chest in front of his wife and 8-year-old son. He was pronounced dead at the restaurant.Ubadimma, from Cypress, Texas, was convicted of capital murder, automatically sentencing him to life in prison without parole.

Ubadimma’s criminal history includes a charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in 2014. He took a plea bargain, placing him under 5 years of community supervision.against the two women involved, as well as one of the men. The other man, Telavell Coleman, 25, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of capital murder.
