12,000 people volunteered to work the convention with 75% of the applications coming from Illinois and every Chicago ZIP code being represented by those who volunteered.“Things are moving along. The big thing that we are focusing on is the final push to recruit volunteers,” Host Committee Chief Operating Officer Alison Prange said at the time.
When the portal to volunteer originally opened in March, the Republican National Committee said 6,000 volunteers would be needed for the event but lowered the threshold as the full-scale planning of the event came to be and the date drew closer.“From an events standpoint, dining, private events, parties, shut-down-the-restaurant, etc., the convention has absolutely been a disappointment,” Cindi McLeod, spokeswoman for Lupi & Iris, a restaurant in Milwaukee, told.
