Exclusive: Robert Kirkman reveals that he was thinking about potential sequels for Renfield when he was first writing the treatment for the movie.
Robert Kirkman discusses the possibility of a Renfield sequel. Kirkman developed the story of Renfield and wrote the treatment before working with Ryan Ridley on the script. The movie follows Dracula's henchman, Renfield, as he tries to build a new life and get out from under his creator's thumb. Renfield's rebellion has unexpected and deadly consequences.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for Renfield, Kirkman reveals he already has ideas for a sequel. He explains that as a comic book writer, his brain automatically thinks about "the next issue." Kirkman keeps details about a potential sequel close to the vest and clarifies, "It doesn't mean that a sequel is in the works." Check out Kirkman's full quote below:
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT I'm a comic book writer and so my brain works that way. So when I was writing the treatment, I was like, "Oh, I can do this and this and this.
What Could A Renfield Sequel Look Like? Renfield ends on a happy note for the titular henchman as he finally escapes the grasp of Dracula. Renfield has started to build a life and saved the friends who helped him stand up to his former master. However, Dracula, as an immortal being, continues to be a terrifying possibility for Renfield.Although Renfield does everything he can to destroy Dracula and scatter his pieces, he admits that he doubts the vampire has been defeated completely.
Renfield is over 100 years old and has been serving Dracula for most of his lifetime. If Kirkman were to make a sequel, it could show how he has continued to build his life and gotten comfortable after Dracula's defeat. However, the tide could change when Dracula begins to stalk Renfield and his loved ones, seeking revenge for his destruction and his henchman's betrayal.
