To scroll through Fausto Puglisi’s Instagram account is to believe that the Roberto Cavalli creative director spends most of his time dressing celebrities, drawing out their inner glamazons. But to believe that would be wrong.
The pre-seasons are a chance for him to play up Cavalli’s softer side, to consider what this brand’s version of a wear-to-work wardrobe really looks like. There are double-face cashmere coats and flat mary janes to wear with them, an a-line skirt suit in a classy green and white jacquard whose hem extends below the knee, and a zip-front shirtdress that would command any boardroom it entered.
Puglisi also emphasized pajama dressing. A tie-dyed pj set and matching faux fur coat were easy and extravagant in equal measure. Down-to-earth then is not entirely the right word for it. The Cavalli aesthetic remains extroverted. That double-face cashmere coat is candy apple red on one side and electric pink on the other. Elsewhere, metal spikes stud the high neck of a little black dress in crushed velvet and a catsuit crawls with leopard spots. His slits still go up to there.
But now that he has his ladies’ attention Puglisi can push at the edges a little bit and experiment. A long black cotton eyelet dress tied with a voluptuous bow at the neck almost qualifies as demure. Those eyelets though? They’re shaped like spikes.
