Hauser burst onto the national cross country scene during his sophomore season after winning the MSHSAA Class 5 boys championship. He also became the first high schooler to break 15 minutes in the 5,000-meter race at Gans Creek Cross Country Course, finishing the race in 14 minutes, 52.70 seconds.
