New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his 61st home run of the 2022 season on Wednesday, tying the record Roger Maris set in 1961.
He did it in his 151st game of the season. It took Maris 161 games to reach the mark in 1961.
Judge hit home run No. 60 in dramatic fashion on Sept 20. He had hammered a solo shot to left field that cut the Yankees’ deficit to three runs before Giancarlo Stanton crushed a walk-off grand slam for a stunning 9-8 victory. “I don’t think it has an effect,” Boone said recently of all the attention Judge has received from the stands during his Maris-chasing at-bats.
“Does he notice it? Probably on some level, there’s an energy that it gives you and I know there’s an energy that he feels and the appreciation he has at playing at Yankee Stadium in front of these fans. I think once he gets in the box and guys get into what they’re doing specifically the little things like that. But I think there’s a subtle energy that he gains from playing here in front of this crowd.
