As the conflict enters its 26th day, the Russian military is approaching a stalemate in many other parts of the country, including outside Kyiv, the capital city.

President Biden will visit Warsaw and meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda this week to talk about what the administration calls the “humanitarian and human rights crisis that Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked war on Ukraine has created.”

Poland, a NATO ally that borders Ukraine, has floated a proposal to deploy NATO troops there. Some past peacekeeping missions have faced ambushes and other forms of direct combat. Earlier Sunday, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations ruled out any U.S. military participation in a proposed NATO peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.
