At the Trials in Atlanta, Lindy Jones plans to “fight with everything I have.” 💪
When the deadline for the WCAP drew near, she applied. The 33:44 she ran in the 10,000 meters at the 2017 Stanford Invitational earned her entry to the elite group.
With that approach, Jones progressed despite the stress. She executed her debut marathon with military precision, running a 2:36:59, one second under the Olympic “A” standard. And her father survived to see it—though it was the last day they’d spend together.Jones grew up the youngest of six, all future athletes at military academies, though Lindy was the only runner. She competed in cross country and track at Landmark Christian High School outside of Atlanta.
After that, the WCAP lifestyle almost feels luxurious. Athletes report race results to their superiors, but otherwise have significant autonomy. Jones decided to stay in Colorado Springs with Rainsberger, who’s taught her “you can do a lot with a little,” Jones said. As planned, Jones started conservatively. Her last mile was her fastest, around 5:40. Her parents’ and husband’s support helped make it “one of the happiest, best days of my life,” Jones said.
