Needing a win and an Arlington loss to advance to the XFL South title game, the San Antonio Brahmas understand Saturday's home matchup is their final shot.
San Antonio Brahmas Head Coach Hines Ward prepares for the start of Saturday’s XFL game against the Orlando Guardians at the Alamodome.Sitting at the dais in the aftermath of San Antonio’s 17-15 loss to Houston two weeks ago, just moments after coach Hines Ward described the Brahmas' playoff chances as “slim to none,” quarterback Jack Coan knew his motivation for the season’s final two weeks.
A win last week and a loss by Arlington kept San Antonio’s hopes alive in the XFL South. If the Brahmas beat the D.C. Defenders at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Alamodome and Arlington loses Sunday against Houston , then San Antonio advances to face top-seeded Houston in next week’s division championship game.
Ward confirmed that he intends to return as San Antonio’s coach next season, but he offered little insight on the roster, knowing many of the league’s policies on player retention won’t be finalized until the end of the year. Ward said he stressed incremental improvement each day, envisioning potential for a step forward without some of the injuries and narrow losses that hampered San Antonio this season.
