San Antonio to vote on controversial development code proposals

The two most controversial code changes of the 193 proposals are those that deal with casitas and the neighborhood notification process for development.

. Council members were split on both issues, with some unsure if they would ultimately support the amendments when they come to a vote next month.

“I have a responsibility to ensure that … if [someone wants] to be a part of a community organization rather than neighborhood association they have access to the same information that a neighborhood association does,” McKee-Rodriguez said. Another, separate proposed UDC amendment would require developers to meet with or attempt to meet with the registered neighborhood association for the area. As proposed, it would not include community organizations.

Several council members, including Phyllis Viagran , Mario Bravo and John Courage , were concerned ADUs would be built to house tourists rather than residents.
