De Agostini via Getty Images: San Francisco reported Thursday the first two cases of the coronavirus in the city, a day after California declared a state of emergency over the disease, making it the sixth major U.S. city to make such an announcement in the last few weeks.accordingTwo San Francisco patients tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday: a man in his 90s with underlying health conditions and a woman in her 40s.
The individuals were only tested this week after the CDC expanded its criteria over who can be tested to include people with unknown respiratory symptoms, a state health official said at a press conference. Officials note that on-demand testing is not available and the city only has enough kits to test at-risk patients.: California on Wednesday declared a state of emergency over the virus as more cases begin to crop up and testing slowly becomes more widely available. In the U.S., 11 people have died—10 in Washington state and one in California north of Sacramento—while more than 213 have been infected, according to Johns Hopkins.
