The provincial and federal governments signed a $20.3 million deal to support a national plan to end gender-based violence in Saskatchewan.

At a media event in Saskatoon on Tuesday, the provincial and federal governments jointly announced a bilateral, four-year, $20.3-million deal to help implement the national action plan to end gender-based violence in the province.The governments say the “historic and comprehensive plan” reflects their commitment to the issue “while empowering communities through community-led solutions.”

The funding will enhance and expand existing programs in Saskatchewan, said provincial Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Office Laura Ross. The Saskatchewan and Canadian governments on July 25, 2023 jointly announced a bilateral four-year, $20.3-million deal to help implement in Saskatchewan the national action plan to end gender-based violence. Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Office Laura Ross represented the province at the announcement at the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon.The governments noted that gender-based violence remains a significant barrier to gender equality.

More than 11 million people in Canada 15 years or older have experienced intimate partner violence at least one time.
