Some occupants needed help to evacuate due to heavy smoke in the hallways and additional fire engines were dispatched, the release said. Firefighters helped four people trapped in their suites to evacuate.“The fire separation door that serves the suite that opens into the hallway was left in the open position. This allowed smoke to leave the fire suite and fill up the hallway subsequently making it impassable for some occupants in other suites to evacuate safely,” the release noted.
