0:50The grassroots Say No to the Casino Civic Association held a rally outside the Nassau County legislative building in Mineola Monday. They say they want to send a message to the county before legislators vote today on lease proposals involving the Nassau Coliseum property.
At this afternoon’s legislative meeting, two lease proposals between Nassau County and Las Vegas Sands are expected to be voted on. One proposal would transfer operations of the coliseum property to Las Vegas Sands. The other proposal would make the Nassau Legislature the lead agency for an environmental review, which is needed before a casino can be voted on.
Supporters say the casino will bring thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue to the county. According to a representative from Las Vegas Sands, any votes related specifically to development or a casino would happen next year.
