His parents called the police Monday after the 19-year-old's dog returned from a trip to a park bathroom without him.
Pennsylvania State Police said investigators believe they have made phone contact with Luke Rissler, and have suspended the search at Pine Grove Furnace State Park in Cooke Township while they work on confirming that he is safe.
Trooper Megan Frazer said physical contact has not been made with Rissler as of Tuesday morning. She said no criminal activity is suspected in his disappearance. Duane Hagelgans of the South Central Task Force said Rissler was last seen around 4:30 p.m. Monday walking with his dog toward a park bathroom near State Route 233 and Pine Grove Road. When the dog returned without Rissler, his family called the police.
Search teams from multiple counties have searched the nearly 700-acre Pine Grove Furnace Park, Hagelgans said. Both ground and aerial searches were conducted. Rissler is about 5 feet, 11 inches tall; 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark blue winter coat with a hood, jeans and sneakers.
