Earlier this summer, Dallas police Officer Christopher Jackson collapsed near a parking lot after he returned home from his shift, police said. He died at a hospital July 6.
“This is another heartbreaking loss for our DPD family,” García said in the email Wednesday. “As your Chief, I’m asking you to pause, for Officer Kipp, his loved ones, and also to check in with yourself.”The chief provided contact information for the department’s wellness unit, an initiative unveiled last year that tries to improve officers’ mental wellness.
After Bacon’s death, the department held wellness sessions for officers to discuss mental health. Bacon, who had been with the department for 18 years, died by apparent suicide one day after he and three others on the U.S. North Texas Fugitive Task Force fatally shot homicide suspect Corey Wayne Thomas, police said.
