Star Trek: Section 31 starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh is officially greenlit and coming to Paramount+. The Star Trek franchise on Paramount+ is continuing to expand in spite of the cancelation of Star Trek: Discovery and the conclusion of Star Trek: Picard with season 3.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Today, Paramount+ announced that the long-awaited Star Trek: Section 31 will be an original movie event starring Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou. The film is written by Craig Sweeney and directed by Olatunde Osunsamni. In Star Trek: Section 31, Emperor Georgiou "joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past.
In a statement, Yeoh says, "I’m beyond thrilled to return to my ‘Star Trek’ family and to the role I’ve loved for so long. Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of ‘Star Trek’ launched. To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams.
Star Trek: Section 31 is also notable for being the first Star Trek original movie made for Paramount+. It opens the door for more standalone films to possibly be made about other characters from the various Star Trek series like Discovery and Picard. While no other details have been revealed about what era Star Trek: Section 31 is set in, it will no doubt be an adventure worthy of the brilliant and devious Emperor Georgiou and the Oscar-winning actress who plays her, Michelle Yeoh.
