There will be plenty to see and do in Selma at the Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee, which marks the 59th anniversary of Bloody Sunday.
The Bloody Sunday civil rights march of 1965 led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act after the nation witnessed marchers being attacked by law enforcement officers after crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma before they could reach their destination of the Alabama Capitol in Montgomery. The march was completed successfully later that month.
Each year, the Bridge Crossing Jubilee draws thousands of people to downtown Selma. This year, Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to return for events on Sunday. She last attended in 2022. President Joe Biden came to Selma last year.Alabama Sen.
