Seven displaced after carport fire leaves two Serra Mesa apartment units with heavy smoke damage [Breaking]
Seven people — three of them children — were displaced after a carport fire left two nearby apartment units with heavy smoke damage in Serra Mesa, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said.
The fire was reported about 4:40 a.m. on Hurlbut Street, the department said. Crews arrived to find two cars engulfed in flames in the carport. Firefighters rescued three people from the nearby apartment building. No one was hurt, fire officials said.Crews kept the fire from spreading into the four-unit apartment complex near the carport, but two units were damaged by smoke, leaving the residents displaced.
The fire caused about $30,000 in damage to the cars and about $50,000 in damage to the structure, the department said.
