Severe storms are possible across a wide swath of the East today – here's what to expect:

ByAn outbreak of severe storms is expected in much of the East and South on Monday.Large hail, flooding rainfall, and isolated tornadoes are also possible.to get weekday updates from The Weather Channel and our meteorologists.

We expect the threat of severe weather to intensify by early afternoon and last into the evening. Multiple severe weather watches will likely be issued by NOAA's Storm Prediction Center during that time.Severe weather is most likely from northern Alabama, northern and central Georgia and much of South Carolina northward to the mid-Atlantic, as depicted by the areas shaded red in the map below. That includes Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

T​he flash flood threat will also extend into New England, Monday, and could linger into Tuesday in parts of northern New England, including Vermont.
