The Giants came back from a 5-0 deficit only to fall 9-6 to the Dodgers to open the second half.

LOS ANGELES — If the Giants were feeling good, fresh off three days off and having won seven of nine before the All-Star break, the division-rival Dodgers gave them a dose of reality to open the second half Thursday.

All nine Dodgers runs came with two outs, and enough could be chalked up to the Giants’ poor defense that neither Garcia nor starter Carlos Rodón can shoulder too much of the blame. Trayce Thompson, the younger brother of the Warriors’ star, gave the Dodgers a triple-double. Or, actually, an RBI double in the second inning, then an RBI triple in the eighth that tied the game at 6 before Betts’ go-ahead homer.

“If Jarlín was standing right here, he’d tell you he has to come in and throw strikes to Bellinger,” Kapler said. “That’s the guy he’s there to get.”
