Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg shares a bizarre and hilarious post that pokes fun at Helen Mirren's casting in the upcoming DCEU movie. The hotly anticipated sequel to 2019's Shazam! has been the subject of a number of delays and date changes due to the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially scheduled for release in 2023, the Shazam 2 release date was recently brought forward to December 15, 2022.
Both Levi and Angel star as the film's titular character, with Angel playing young Billy Batson and Levi playing his super-powered counterpart. With only a number of small teases for Shazam! Fury of the Gods having been released so far, much of what can be expected from this exciting DCEU installment remains a mystery.
Sandberg is no stranger to social media, often taking to Instagram to share fun updates from Shazam! Fury of the Gods' production, as well as various other hilarious posts. While both Mirren and Liu are expected to be the key Shazam 2 villains, their roles are still largely shrouded in secrecy.
While Sandberg's post was created in jest, it's amusing to imagine Mirren actually selecting her roles based on such a strange stipulation. Just what exactly inspired Sandberg to share such a bizarre post remains to be seen, but the director's appreciation for Mirren's talent is evident, as the post pokes fun at the Hollywood star's involvement with the Shazam sequel.
