Parts of California were filled with snow over the weekend after a massive storm delivered as much as 48 inches of snow in the Lake Tahoe area.
The Sierra Nevada got the brunt of the snowfall, with the intense storm causing intense winter weather conditions two weeks before Christmas.At the University of California, Berkeley, Central Sierra Snow Laboratory, 43.5 inches of snow was recorded in a 48-hour time span, with 37.8 inches occurring in a 24-hour span.We're expecting light snow to continue through the day that should yield another 3-6". pic.twitter.
The snow storms were described by the National Weather Service as causing conditions like an atmospheric"bowling ball," while in other parts of the Golden State, heavy rain battered down, causing some flooding and numerous travel delays for residents.
"The most widespread and substantial impacts will occur as the system ejects into the Central Plains tomorrow as a developing low-pressure center tracks eastward. This will result in heavy snow and possible blizzard conditions across portions of the Central and Northern High Plains through Wednesday," the National Weather Service said in an alert Monday.
