As Chicago slowly emerges from its pandemic-induced slumber, officials continue to look for ways to goose the city's entertainment scene.The latest bid to encourage people to leave the house and hang out in bars and clubs: A citywide karaoke contest, announced Wednesday.
The first round of"Chicago Sings Karaoke" kicks off Oct. 9 and runs through Oct. 18, with semifinals on Oct. 23 and the final slated for Nov. 6. The winner will receive $5,000. Eighteen neighborhood venues are hosting the preliminary round, whittling down contestants to 18 semi-finalists. Six finalists will compete for the title at Park West, performing in front of a panel of to-be-determined celebrity and VIP judges.
Contestants must be 21 years or older and only Chicago residents can enter. A complete list of rules and venues is posted
