At this point, there has been no big splashdown in Houston, which isn’t unexpected, just underwhelming. That doesn’t mean Caserio hasn’t improved the roster. Signing names you have heard of might get some fans excited but wouldn’t necessarily translate into victories.The Texans entered free agency with the fourth-biggest stash available under the salary cap. Clearly, they’re not about to waste it just to make fans and media feel good.
Next year, the Texans should have a solid core of young players, led by the quarterback they will presumably draft at No. 2, with bright futures playing under rookie deals. Plus, they will have significant cap space to sign veterans. As for this year, last week’s trade for guard Shaq Mason, who has eight years as a starter on his resume, should be a considerable upgrade. The addition of wide receiver Robert Woods and quarterback Case Keenum will make a difference.
