The four-level, 3,405-square-foot town home in the South Loop that former Mayor Richard M. Daley and his late wife, Maggie, owned was sold on Friday.
for $750,000. The $425,000 gain on their sale is not far from the $340,000 return that the former mayor reaped on the town home, which he and Maggie Daley purchased for $410,000 from its developer, MCL Development, in late 1993.
In 2011, shortly after Daley’s mayoral term ended, he and his wife moved from the town home, in the South Loop’s Central Station area, into a rental condominium in the Bloomingdale’s building on the Gold Coast. That paved the way for the former mayor to sell the South Loop town home the following year for $750,000 to his daughter.
Other features include a back deck, a north-facing balcony with skyline views, and a kitchen with a large island, eat-in seating for five, a built-in desk, a double oven with a warming drawer, a vented stove, a beverage refrigerator and a significant amount of pantry storage. “It’s a really well-built unit with a nice sized square footage,” she said. “So the comps definitely supported the price. And it’s a private, gated community. My clients are happy that a nice young family will be moving into it.”
