Authorities are taking precautions as a major Santa Ana wind event is predicted to bring strong gusts and a heightened risk of wildfires to Southern California.

With another major Santa Ana wind event approaching Southern California, local authorities are preparing for potential emergencies. Cal Fire is deploying additional firefighting resources throughout the state to mitigate the risk of wildfires. The winds, expected to start Tuesday after midnight and last until early Friday, could reach 80 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

This could cause downed trees and power lines, leading SoCal Edison to consider planned outages for hundreds of thousands of residents. Cal Fire has 45 additional engines and six hand crews ready for deployment in Southern California, transferred from Northern California. In the event of a fire, Cal Fire will begin their response at 'above normal levels,' including fire engines, hand crews, bulldozers, water tenders, and 24/7 supervisory personnel. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning starting Tuesday at 1 p.m. and lasting until Thursday at 6 p.m., and a High Wind Warning from Tuesday at 4 a.m. to Wednesday at 6 p.m
