Special election preparation speeds ahead for Nathan Fletcher's former supervisor seat
After hours of public testimony calling for a special election in District 4, the Board of Supervisors decided to call a vote. It could cost taxpayers $5 million.
The candidate nomination process begins almost immediately after Tuesday’s vote. Candidates who wish to submit signatures in lieu of a filing fee can get those forms this Wednesday through Friday, and the period for candidates to submit nomination papers runs from May 30 to June 6. Election materials will be available in English, Spanish, Filipino, Vietnamese and Chinese, with bilingual poll workers providing assistance in additional languages including Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Somali and the Persian tongues Farsi and Dari, Paes said.
Amy Reichert, a Republican, is a founder of the organization ReOpen San Diego and challenged Fletcher for his seat in November.
