Legendary sports writer and Kentucky-based journalist Billy Reed died at Northern Suburban Hospital in Louisville from liver disease, according to theReed had been in and out of hospitals after several falls ever since he fell at his alma mater, Transylvania University, last summer. He was a member of the Transylvania University Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame and was a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Hall of Fame.
Reed, who was named Kentucky Sports Writer of the Year eight times over his illustrious career, wrote for publications including
