At Salyers in particular, the changes offer an opportunity to reduce the travel time to school for some students. Administrators also wanted to gather additional community input and further assess demographic trends. After the pandemic, student enrollment was 5 percent, or 1,600 students, lower than what was previously projected, the district stated.
Kids who are no longer in their boundary of their current school will be required to change schools, the district stated. Incoming 5th-graders and their siblings may be grandfathered in and allowed to remain at the campus they are currently attending for one more year before they would be required to switch.
