Spring water from near toxic Ohio train derailment pulled from N.J. stores
Cleanup continues in a stream in East Palestine Park in East Palestine, Ohio, Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023. Residents of the Ohio village upended by a freight train derailment are demanding to know if they're safe from the toxic chemicals that spilled or were burned off to avoid an even bigger disaster.
“We are not aware of any customer concerns thus far, however we are temporarily removing the one-gallon size Acadia water from the shelf out of an abundance of caution,” Maura O’Brien, a Stop & Shop spokeswoman said Wednesday. “The water quality is being tested regularly by our supplier, and if these tests continue to demonstrate there are no safety concerns — as they have thus far — we will return the product to our shelves for sale.
Asked about customers who may have already purchased the water sourced after the derailment, Daniel Wolk, another company spokesman, said: “If a customer is concerned with a recent purchase of this item, they can visit their local Stop & Shop store for a full refund.” Wolk confirmed the water brand is sourced from Columbiana County, the same county in Ohio where the East Palestine incident took place.Giant Eagle, a supermarket chain in Western Pennsylvania, took
