The ninth-year pro led the Spurs with 14 points in Sunday’s loss to New Orleans, three days after he tallied the same amount against Orlando. McDermott has plenty of experience coming off the bench. He had just 14 starts through his first six seasons before starting 29 for Indiana in 2020-21. “We have a lot of young guys in that starting lineup and this will help them develop even more,” McDermott said at shootaround at Vivint Arena, where the Spurs faced the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.
Known as one of the league’s most accurate perimeter shooters after connecting on 40 percent or better of his shots from beyond the arc in four of the last five seasons, McDermott averaged 11.3 points for the Spurs last season and shot 42.2 percent from deep on 5.0 attempts per game.
