DALLAS — For much of the past three weeks, Spurs guard Lonnie Walker has become overly acquainted with the heating pad used to treat his sore back.“My best friend,” Walker said. “It’s doing its job right now.”

“I don’t think he is back to normal,” coach Gregg Popovich said. “He is suffering out there a little bit. He is giving it all he has, for sure.” That could pose problems for the Spurs’ reserve unit as the team prepares for a Western Conference play-in game Wednesday in New Orleans. “It’s only going to recover with time,” Walker said. “I’ve been through worse. There’s nothing that’s going to stop me from playing how I’m supposed to play.”Popovich had modest goals for his club entering the last game of the regular season Sunday.
