The Spurs traded the big man and former top-10 pick to the Raptors for Khem Birch, a protected 2024 first-round draft pick and two future second-round picks, ESPN reported around midnight on Thursday.
Toronto coach Nick Nurse didn’t hold back when asked about Poeltl’s development before the Spurs lost to the Raptors 112-98 on Wednesday.Nurse was an assistant coach under Dwane Casey when the Raptors selected Poeltl ninth overall in the 2016 NBA Draft and worked closely with the 7-foot-1 Utah product to improve his game.
“That’s pretty good on the list of big guy things to do. If you can rebound and protect the rim and pass the ball, set a few screens, not bad. He can handle it, get it to the rim and finish it too. We really liked him when he was here.”“I will approach the same way I have always approached it, which is I am planning on having this exact team when the trade deadline passes,” he told the Express-News. “If something happens, it’s the NBA, that’s the business. You can’t cry about it.
