The Director of Emergency Management in St. Johns County is anticipating heavy rain, coastal erosion as well as possible flooding in low-lying areas due to Hurricane Ian.

That includes parts of St. Augustine in the eastern part of the county as well as in the southwestern corner of the county in Hastings and Flagler Estates.

One person who lives in southern Ponte Vedra Beach told News4JAX he’s actually already booked a hotel room in Jacksonville if he needs to evacuate. St. Johns County is offering free sandbags for residents starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at six locations throughout the county.“The sand and the bags provided are free of charge. Residents must provide their transportation and shovels and are responsible for filling their bags. There is a maximum allocation of 20 bags per person. The sand and bags are available between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, and Wednesday, Sept. 28, weather permitting.Hastings Town Hall - 6195 S.
