Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Pike and Spock make a brief appearance in a new Paramount+ promo. Ethan Peck’s take on the famed Vulcan science officer from the starship Enterprise first appeared in season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery alongside Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike.
After making such an auspicious return to the Star Trek universe as part of the cast on Discovery, Pike and Spock will next find himself themselves returning to their old star-hopping ways on the upcoming Trek series Strange New Worlds. Unlike Discovery and other recent Trek shows, Strange New Worlds will ditch today’s favored prestige TV narrative arc format and instead return to the old-fashioned episodic approach favored by shows like Star Trek: The Original Series and The Next Generation.
Whether Strange New Worlds truly succeeds where its predecessors on Paramount+ failed of course remains to be seen. However, returning to the Enterprise and setting it loose to explore the galaxy unencumbered by major narrative arcs feels like a backward step that could prove to be a real leap forward.
