Star Wars just confirmed a major event that took place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The Force is broken, sending Luke and Vader's powers into disarray - and fixing it may lead to the creation of Luke's green lightsaber.
A new Star Wars story is confirming that - between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the Force itself changed, all thanks to a daring attack on the Sith. Qi’ra, a major character from Solo: A Star Wars Story, has become a major threat to the Galactic Empire and the Sith Order in recent canon-continuity Star Wars comics.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The summary for Star Wars #34 by Charles Soule and Madibek Musabekov reveals that the Force will become something different and unpredictable, based on events in a concurrent issue of Hidden Empire. This is likely due to Qi’ra using the Fermata Cage in an attempt to assassinate the Emperor and Darth Vader, endangering all Force-users in the process.
The Fermata Cage, which debuted in the Crimson Reign comic miniseries, is an ancient Sith relic with the power to freeze moments and beings in time. Powered by the dark side of the Force, the device is potentially catastrophic to reality itself, as the Force is an omnipresent energy field and a fundamental aspect of nature in the Star Wars galaxy.
Is Luke About to Construct His Green Lightsaber? Luke Skywalker intends to fix the damage done to the Force by using a Kyber crystal, which may explain how he replaces his current yellow-bladed lightsaber with his signature green-bladed weapon. Kyber crystals are conduits of the Force itself, and while Luke has made good use of his yellow-bladed weapon, he did not bond with the Kyber crystal inside of it.
The Star Wars Legends continuity depicts the creation of Luke’s lightsaber in Shadows of the Empire, but the creation of the iconic weapon’s canon counterpart has yet to be shown. As canon comics approach the events of Return of the Jedi, telling the new continuity’s version of this event will be exciting for readers.
