State shuts down north Alabama 'sludge farm' after spills.

Biosolids waste storage site in north AlabamaThe Alabama Department of Environmental Management has ordered an out-of-state waste company to stop using a north Alabama dairy farm as a storage and distribution site for poultry processing waste sludge, after observing multiple spills and a torn liner in one of three lagoons that holds the sludge.

Denali did not immediately respond to requests for comment for this story and has ignored repeated attempts by AL.com to comment on previous stories. During the closure procedures, on March 22, an ADEM inspector noted the liner of Lagoon No. 3 ”appeared to have been compromised and was observed to be floating on the surface of the stored by-product material.”
