Freshman Maadhvi Bhojani leads Friendswood contingent in Class 5A state tennis
FRIENDSWOOD — When Friendswood’s Maadhvi Bhojani tries to extend a magical tennis season next week, part of her approach might have a baseball feel to it:“I’ll just focus on being consistent and hitting the ball with power,” Bhojani said.
“Going into my freshman year, I was just excited to play tennis,” Bhojani said, “but getting to state is special.In an age of tennis where players love to slug it out from the baseline, Bhojani likes to consider herself an exception. Bhojani regards her forehand as her primary weapon, but her backhand isn’t to be disregarded. It may not produce as many winners, but it’s a model of consistency.
“I had a pretty rough first set, but I just put it behind me going into the second set,” Bhojani said. “The girl was obviously a great player, but the second set gave me confidence that I can keep up with really good players.Friendswood’s boys doubles team of senior Ethan Eberhardt and junior Michael Lanni will also bid for a state tournament title.
