The Washington State Department of Transportation says there are hundreds of fire-damaged trees along US 2 that could fall onto the road.SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — More than 10 days after the Bolt Creek wildfire started north of Skykomish, a stretch of U.S. 2, including Stevens Pass, remains closed.“Firefighters are still seeing flareups close to the highway and fire-damaged trees are still falling on the road,” the Washington State Department of Transportation said Wednesday morning.

WSDOT said there are hundreds of such trees near the highway and they need to be removed before U.S. 2 can reopen.WSDOT’s geotechnical team was along U.S. 2 on Tuesday identifying falling debris and other hazards, according to the Western Washington Incident Management Team. A meeting is planned for Wednesday afternoon to determine when the highway may reopen.As of Tuesday, two areas were at Level 3 evacuation status, meaning “leave now.
