There are only five days left to apply for a guaranteed income program that will provide monthly payments of $1,000 for two years in Los Angeles County.
The program, known as Breathe, will select 200 applicants who are former foster children to receive the payments over two years. The application period opened on June 20 and will close next week on July 3 at 11:59 p.m., according to the program's webpage.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must be at least 21 years old and not turn 24 before Sept. 1. Applicants must also be former Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services foster youth who were in care on or after their 18th birthday. Other requirements include having a household income at or below 100% of the area median income for a single-person household or 120% for a household of two or more people. They also must have been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic and may not be enrolled in another guaranteed income program.Those interested in applying can do so online on Los Angeles County's website.
An additional 2,000 applicants were randomly chosen to participate in the study as part of the control group. The control group does not receive the $1,000 payments every month but will be asked to complete the periodic surveys and interviews and will be compensated with a $30 gift card for every survey they take.
