Stranger Things season 5 will feature a time jump from where season 4 left off, but the question is: where in time will Stranger Things jump to?
After confirming that Stranger Things season 5 will feature a major time jump, a crazy theory has since been circulating online about how the Duffer Brothers will execute it. Although it isn’t major, Stranger Things has employed a few time skips in-between seasons. As a way to showcase the natural progression of time passing, Stranger Things has set its narrative a year or less apart; season 1 in November 1983, season 2 in October 1984, season 3 in July 1985, and finally season 4 in March 1986.
Stranger Things wouldn’t be the first show to time jump backwards, and it certainly won’t be the last. With Hawkins sporting a gaping gate to the Upside Down, jumping forward a few years without anything happening in between would be fundamentally illogical unless Stranger Things also plans to jump backwards.
In Stranger Things season 4, episode 9, Max Mayfield dies; becoming Vecna’s last sacrifice to open the gate between Hawkins and the Upside Down. However, she is resurrected by Eleven using her psychokinetic powers. This scene is reminiscent of Henry Creel using his powers on a bird and seemingly resurrecting it as the Grandfather clock ticks in the background.
