Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer has pitched a spinoff where her character Nancy Wheeler solves mysteries. Stranger Things, which is a retro throwback to everything 1980s pop culture from Amblin films to Stephen King novels and Dungeons and Dragons role-playing games. The series was created by the Duffer Brothers and premiered on Netflix in 2016.
Nancy Wheeler was introduced in the very first episode of Stranger Things and has appeared in every episode since. Although she is not a member of the main group of kids, which includes her little brother Mike, she is at the center of the teenage storyline that has run throughout the series.
I wouldn’t write it off, if the [Duffer] brothers were involved. I’ve always had thoughts of Nancy becoming this detective type, cool spy, secret monster hunting… The Duffer brothers have already teased several spinoffs of Stranger Things, which will follow the fifth and final season, which is coming after the two-part season 4 premiere this May and July. So far, they haven't revealed what characters or storylines they might follow. However, given the casual, joking manner in which Dyer pitched her own idea, it seems like Nancy Wheeler isn't currently the focus of any of their planned projects to Dyer's knowledge.
Dyer's spinoff idea sounds like a cross between Stranger Things and Nancy Drew, which would actually be perfect for the time period they're trying to evoke. Although the young detective's children's book series began in 1930, the mid-80s saw the development of a more teen-oriented version of the series called The Nancy Drew Files.
