This appears to be one of the first suicides reported at the county jail since a rash of cases resulted in a federal probe.
, prompting an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. Investigators concluded that jail officials “failed to take measures to prevent inmate suicides and provide adequate mental health care,” according to findings released last year.
The jail failed to provide this treatment to at least six individuals who died by suicide, according to the report, and not doing so “likely contributed to the death of several inmates.”
