Summer Creek boys down Atascocita to break District 21-6A tie for third
Bryson Wheatfall and Cameron Patterson led Summer Creek with 16 and 13 points, respectively, in Tuesday night's win over Atascocita.Summer Creek and Atascocita came into Tuesday night's 21-6A contest with 7-4 district records. The winner would put itself in sole possession of third place, bettering its playoff chances and presenting a shot to move up the standings with two regular-season games remaining.
The first three quarters saw seven lead changes and three ties, with Summer Creek holding a 35-30 edge heading into the fourth. Junior guard Cameron Patterson's mid-range jumper to start the fourth put the Bulldogs up 37-30. A shooting slump kept the Eagles scoreless for 4 minutes, 10 seconds. Atascocita ended the drought as freshman guard Jachai Cantave made a layup to begin a three-point play, but the Eagles wouldn't get close enough to make a comeback.“It’s always good to have people like Bryson, Cam and Kyle that when you do need a bucket, you have that chance to score,” Coleman said. “Even when things break down, they can put the ball on the floor and go get one.
