Sunset Memorial hosted their 18th annual Memorial Day ceremony to remember the lives lost in combat.

While this yearly event has become a tradition over the years, for many across the Wiregrass it is another opportunity to honor the sacrifice of unsung heroes.

”I know we want to go out and we want to have picnics and we want have barbecues and go to the beach, but we also have to remember that underlying thing that these are people that died for us. They gave us the ability to have these types of freedoms,” Jenn Donahue said. Freedom with a cost, something guest speaker and retired Navy Captain Jenn Donahue knows all too well about.

As people adorned in red, white and blue remember the deeper meaning behind Memorial Day, it is a reminder of something else.
