Suspect in Tierrasanta home invasion charged with additional burglaries [Breaking]
A 40-year-old man accused of breaking into a Tierrasanta home and holding a woman hostage at gunpoint was charged Wednesday with 18 felonies, including burglary and assault with a firearm, as well as a misdemeanor count of sexual battery.
A criminal complaint filed Wednesday alleges Trussell broke into five homes and tried to break into two other homes between Friday and Saturday. The hostage situation prompted a San Diego police officer, who was perched on a neighboring rooftop, to shoot at the suspect after the man fired a round inside the home, police said. No one was injuredPolice said previously that they suspected Trussell had tried to break into two homes, first on Rueda Drive about 12:30 a.m., then on La Cuenta Drive about 30 minutes later. Officers were unable to find the prowler.
The intruder entered the room, pulled out a gun and threatened the woman, police said. Officers heard screams, so they entered the home and confronted the intruder, who took the woman hostage at gunpoint into another room.
