The man was on board a northbound Q train at Canal street when he was fatally shot in the chest late Sunday morning.
CHINATOWN, Manhattan -- A man has died after being shot in the chest while on a subway train in New York City.
"According to witnesses, the suspect was walking back and forth in the same train car and without provocation, pulled out a gun and fired it at the victim at close range," said Chief of Department Kenneth Corey. "All of a sudden there was a small group of people started running towards the exit and then another group of people started running and then that's when the rest of our car cleared out relatively quickly," said Matthew Chavan of Brooklyn,"so I just started following everyone else. Everyone isn't running for no reason -- and then ran out of the station up to the sixth platform and then up to street level."No arrests have been made.
