Tacoma city council to vote on camping ban near temporary shelters

The ordinance was proposed in response to a rise in public health and safety concerns from community members regarding areas where temporary shelters have been set up.

Currently, there are several temporary shelters in Tacoma, which include the Stability Site, the Tacoma Emergency Micro-Shelter Site #3, the Tacoma Emergency Micro-Shelter Site #4 and others.

With buffers around the temporary shelters, Hines said it “will foster support from community members to host a temporary shelter in their neighborhood.”
